Is Bluejack National Augusta West?

Bluejack National

The name “Tiger Woods” is synonymous with excellence on the golf course. Tiger and his design company are looking to extend that reputation to the world of golf course design. His inaugural course, Bluejack National, is located about 45 minutes outside of Houston. The early indication has Woods hitting a “hole-in-one.” The private course and surrounding community offer a variety of amenities aimed at making golf fun and family oriented. Let’s tee it up and take a closer look at a few of the features the Tiger Woods Design Company has put together.

The Course

Naturally, the first thing to notice is the 18 hole championship course. Tall pines line fairways of zoysia grass, which helps the ball sit up for cleaner contact and easier shots. There are multiple tee boxes offered for golfers of all skill levels and age. They range from the 7500 yard “Tiger” tees to the 3000 yard “Frank,” or junior, tees. Despite the lack of water or rough, the course can still bite. The teeth of the course lie in the undulation of the fairways and greens, as well as the speed of the greens. Woods said he wanted the greens to be hard and very fast, leading many to compare the course to Augusta National. The front 9 holes of the course opened to members in January of 2016. The back 9 opened in April of 2016.

The Playground

The next feature that catches the eye is called “The Playground.” This par-3 course features 10 holes, none exceeding 110 yards. Members can do everything from practice their short game to settle a friendly wager. In addition, it is designed to create a fun atmosphere where families, friends, and kids can gather to play. The lights at night and ability to play music over the course lend to this informal atmosphere as well.

Other Bluejack National Features

Besides these aspects of the facility, the design team installed other areas aimed to continue the family-fun atmosphere. There is a fishing dock and a skate park designed by professional skateboarder Eric Koston. You can also find a mini “Fenway Park” for whiffle ball games, a zip line course, and an outdoor movie theater. You can read more about these amenities and others along with the community at www.bluejacknational.com. Taking a collective look at the amenities offered at Bluejack National, Woods and his team have hit it on the sweet spot on their first swing!
