TaylorMade On Tour: Season Wrap Up
Another PGA Tour season is in the books, and what a season it was for TaylorMade. In this edition of TaylorMade on Tour, we look at the results from the end of the year plus a quick season wrap up. We didn’t forget about you equipment junkies either. There are a couple notable equipment releases to pass along. We begin by looking at the end of the 2016-17 season.
TaylorMade Season Wrap Up
FedEx Cup Playoffs
In our last post, we filled you in on the first stops of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The last 2 stops for the Playoffs saw more strong performances by TaylorMade staffers. At the BMW Championship, Justin Rose finished T2, Jason Day was 4th, and Jon Rahm finished T5. Rose shot a final round 65, getting close to eventual winner Marc Leishman, but couldn’t catch the Aussie. Day and Rahm also played good golf, boosting their confidence heading into the last stop, the Tour Championship.
Six TaylorMade staffers were among the top 30 golfers making it to East Lake, host of the Tour Championship. The six are Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Jon Rahm, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, and Xander Schauffele. Five of the 6 shot 3 rounds in the 60’s for the week but it wasn’t enough to catch Xander Schauffele. The talented youngster was on fire, executing shot after shot and holding off the strong field. The win was Xander’s 2nd of the year and earned him Rookie of the Year honors. After finishing 3rd in the final FedEx Cup standings, the future seems pretty bright for the 23-year old.
President’s Cup
The United States team dominated the International Team at this year’s President’s Cup. After nearly claiming the Cup on Saturday, the U.S. team coasted to victory in the Sunday singles matches to win for the 10th time in 12 contests. Dustin Johnson was the best player on the U.S. team, going 4-0-1 to earn 4.5 points, the most of anyone on the team.
2016-17 Season Wrap Up
The were many highlights for TaylorMade during the 2016-17 season. It started with a huge signing announcement during the PGA Merchandise show, Tiger Woods. That wouldn’t be the only big name to sign with the company. Later in the season, former Nike staffer Rory McIlroy signed a full bag deal after testing (and loving) the TP5x golf ball. While neither player had a memorable season (Tiger’s ended in February), each is excited to get it going for 2017-18.
Sergio Garcia, another longtime staffer won his first major this season, holding off Justin Rose to win the Green Jacket. It was an emotional win for the Spaniard, having come close a number of times in his career before finally winning. Sergio and TaylorMade have recently agreed to mutually go their separate ways, after 15 years together. It was a good run for the duo and the best to both moving forward!
Speaking of Spaniards, rookie phenom Jon Rahm earned his 1st career victory at the Farmer’s Insurance Open. He continued to play well throughout the season, racking up 9 more top-10 finishes. Impressively, he finished top-10 in each stop of the FedEx Cup Playoffs against stronger and stronger fields each week.

Overall, TaylorMade had 3 players in the top 5 of the final FedEx Cup rankings. Rahm and Schauffele were joined by Dustin Johnson. Johnson finished the year with 4 victories, spent much of the year #1 in the FedEx Cup standings, and was in the conversation for Player Of The Year award. The 2016-17 season was also the 10th consecutive season with a win for Johnson. There are only 5 players who have more consecutive years: Tiger, Trevino, Casper, Palmer, and Nicklaus, respectively.

The model names, Chaska and Ardmore, were already available in a Satin finish. Those familiar models are now available in red. There are also new versions of the Ardmore in the TP Red Collection. Here’s a list of them (with a more-detailed review ):

Milled Grind Wedge Expansion
You can now get nearly any TaylorMade Milled Grind wedge in a rich Antique Bronze finish. TaylorMade also added more high bounce options for those that have a steep swing or take a big divot. If you need more information on the Milled Grind wedges, check out our review of them.
